Finally....

This is it...the final requirement for the blog.

You must now post your statement of intention, for the first SAC (Expository/Persuasive), in your discussion space. I have created new discussion spaces for each class under this posting, just for the statement of intention and any other comments you make.

It is our hope that you will be able to further develop your ideas for your first piece of writing by looking at a variety of texts, contributing a personal response to each text on the blog, and by commenting on what others have written.

We hope that you have found using the blog, as a tool for context building, a valuable exercise in some respect. I know I have enjoyed reading everyone's contribution so far. I can't wait to see how everyone will present their ideas in the first piece of writing.

Just a reminder: the Expository/Persuasive SAC is set for the first week of Term 4.

Reminder....

Today is the last day to post your 300 words for week one of the blog. You must have a personal reflection of the John Donne poem (200 words) as well as a comment (or two) on another student's reponse (total of 100 words) this week.

Your work in the blog does count towards an S for unit 2, so get writing!!

Tomorrow starts week two and a new set text.

General discussion - "About a Boy"

This post is designed to be a general discussion space for the set text "About a Boy."

Anyone can post comments here, from any form, although it should be noted this is not one of the required texts that has to be commented upon. (Week one/Text #1- Poem is below)

So....what did you think of the film?
Do you think Will is actually an island, just because he says he is?
How does being an island define his identity?

  No Man Is an Island
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

No Man Is an Island is an expression meaning "Human beings necessarily depend on one another", or as in

"You can't manage this all by yourself."

Text #1: Poem

No man is an island,

Entire of itself.

Each is a piece of the continent,

A part of the main.

If a clod be washed away by the sea,

Europe is the less.

As well as if a promontory were.

As well as if a manner of thine own

Or of thine friend's were.

Each man's death diminishes me,

For I am involved in mankind.

Therefore, send not to know

For whom the bell tolls,

It tolls for thee.

John Donne
