Statement of intention: For the SAC that we shall be writing during the first week of term 4, I have chosen the prompt ‘Conformity Destroys Individuality’. I decided to write a persuasive piece in the form of a first person speech given to yr 7’s. The purpose of the piece is to persuade the yr 7’s that conformity doesn’t destroy individuality but merely changes the way in which it is expressed. As this piece is to be in first person I will be using informal language while incorporating various other persuasive language techniques. I will be using both direct and indirect examples from the texts ‘About a Boy’ and ‘Into the Wild’ while also drawing from my own ideas and thoughts on the topic.
Statement of Intention: For the SAC, I have chosen the prompt 'Conformity destorys individuality. In composing this piece of writing, I am hoping to showcase why the prompt can be both correct, and incorrect. I will be writing this piece in the first person, using informal language. The audience that I will be writing for will be towards those in the early teens, an age where conformity seems to become very commonplace. I will draw ideas from personal experience, as well as from pieces that we have watched/read recently. I will be looking to inform the audience that conformity doesn’t destroy individuality, and individuality doesn’t destroy conformity. That is, just because you have chosen to like/engage in things that other people are doing, it doesn’t mean you are necessarily just one of the crowd, you are still your own person. And just because you do things that are not to the ‘norm’, doesn’t mean you can’t have normal relationships with other people.
